Payments Regulation and Innovation Summit 2026

The Electronic Money Association is pleased to be supporting the Payments Regulation and Innovation Summit 2026, which is taking place on 2 February 2026 in London.

This one-day conference brings together UK industry leaders, regulators, and innovators to address the specific challenges and opportunities facing the UK market. From navigating FCA requirements to leveraging the UK’s world-leading open banking infrastructure, attendees will gain practical insights and strategic frameworks tailored to the UK regulatory environment and competitive landscape.

This year’s Summit addresses the key developments which are shaping the payments ecosystem in 2026. From a regulatory perspective, the merger of the PSR and FCA potentially heralds a new era for the way in which regulators interact with the industry – or not, as the case may be. We are delighted that David Geale, Executive Director, Payments and Digital Finance, Financial Conduct Authority and Managing Director, Payment Systems Regulator has agreed to give a keynote address on what the consolidation means and how they will achieve their objectives.

Whatever the regulatory framework, there can be no doubt that there will be a wave of radical reforms over the next year. With the FCA’s new safeguarding rules taking effect in May, the maturation of the APP fraud reimbursement regime, and the transition from open banking to open finance, UK payment providers face unprecedented regulatory and competitive challenges. Simultaneously, technological innovations including agentic AI, real-time payment enhancements, and the emergence of regulated stablecoins are creating new opportunities for those prepared to adapt.

Confirmed speakers include:

  • David Geale, Executive Director, Payments and Digital Finance, Financial Conduct Authority and Managing Director, Payment Systems Regulator
  • Sarah Breeden, Deputy Governor for Financial Stability, Bank of England
  • The Lord Holmes of Richmond MBE
  • Rory Tanner, UK Head of Government Affairs, Revolut
  • Ben Agnew, Chief Executive Officer, The Payments Association
  • Deb Jones, Deputy Managing Director, Payment Systems Regulator
  • Simon Eacott, Head of Payments, NatWest Bank
  • Natalie Lewis, Partner, Head of Fintech, Market Infrastructure and Payments, Travers Smith
  • Dr Thaer Sabri, CEO, Electronic Money Association

EMA at Payments Regulation and Innovation Summit 2024

The EMA is pleased to be supporting City & Financial Global’s third annual Payments Regulation and Innovation Summit taking place on 25th January 2024, in London.

The payments landscape has changed dramatically since the previous edition of this Summit. Technological developments, changing consumer behaviour, digital currencies, APP scams and money-laundering have all proliferated over the last year and continue to challenge traditional payment providers and the many new entrants to the markets. Keeping ahead of the curve of these developments has been a real challenge for the regulators. The Government has announced plans to reform the powers and regulatory perimeter of the Bank of England and the Payment Systems Regulator as the payment ecosystem becomes ever more complex and inter-connected.

Thaer Sabri, EMA’s CEO, will join a Panel on The future of digital currencies as a payment system.
